Iceland Recap!

Happy Sunday! I hope you're enjoying your weekend - perhaps prepping for friends and family to come over for the big game or simply relaxing around the house? My boyfriend and I spent our lazy Sunday morning making breakfast and Vlogging about our recent life changing experience in Iceland. A couple of weeks ago, I posted a blog about our trip and we've received a lot of questions from friends who are thinking about taking the trip themselves, which made us so happy! That's why I blogged about it - to help others be more prepared for the experience. I promised I'd round up the last few days of our trip in today's post, so without further ado....

Day 5-8

As we were driving to our next destination, we ran into trouble: the roads were closed due to inclement weather!! Let me rephrase that: the road. The one main road that got us from Point A to Point B had a sign saying that if you pass this point in the street, rescue teams will not come find you if you are stranded. It was that dangerous. So we turned around and cancelled our accommodations for the rest of the trip, hoping we could find a hotel that had a room for us for the next few nights.

Without going into each stop because it was all a blur and we want to get on to the Vlog, I will tell you that this was the best thing that could have happened. Not only were we able to revisit amazing places that we had hit on the way there a second time, we also had the opportunity to take in beautiful scenery without a destination in mind. We could stop to pet Icelandic horses as much as we wanted. We could make our own plans for the next few days without a plan in mind. Crazy for me, but so much fun!

It's hard to choose the BEST part of the trip, but Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach was something like a religious experience. It was not in our original plan, so when we pulled up to the parking lot and got out, we were STUNNED. STUNNED I tell you. This was a magical, wonderful experience (albeit dangerous due to super intense waves and falling rocks) that I will never forget. Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach is made of lava - this is not a beach for tanning, but for exploring. 66M high rock pillars jut out of the sea and the scenery is just simply breathtaking. I will cherish the 2 hours we spent here wandering around for the rest of my life.

After that, we got a chance to have dinner with an old friend of mine, Sigrun, who is from Iceland and lives there today! We went to Flatey Pizza and it was delicious. Sigrun helped us so much - from looking over and editing our itinerary, to answering our many questions and just being a source of info for us clueless American Tourists. Thank you S!!! It was amazing seeing you :)

DON'T STEP ON THE MOSS! It's thousands of years old and takes just as long to grow back after you stop on it doing the nay-nay or whatever you were doing that angered every Icelander out there, Mr. Bieber.
